US Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly on Thursday condemned the deportation of 14 Syrian nationals from Lebanon during a meeting with Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun. “The ambassador said that the US was deeply disturbed by the recent deportations of 14 Syrians.  She stressed the importance of protecting all Syrians, including dissenters and deserters, who have rejected violence, in keeping with Lebanon’s international humanitarian obligations,” a statement issued by the embassy’s press office said. However, the US envoy commended the “generosity in hosting Syrian refugees” in Lebanon and the efforts exerted by the Lebanese government to provide humanitarian assistance to the refugees.
