The pandemic has taken its toll on shopping destinations worldwide and the latest chain to shutter is Godiva by the end of March. The chocolate maker is closing all of its stores in North America, that includes 117 in the U.S. and 11 in Canada. The company will, however, keep its brick-and-mortar locations in the Middle East, Europe and greater China. Godiva said consumer behavior as a result of the pandemic contributed to dwindling demand for in-store sweets, while online sales have grown, according to Business Insider. The company said the decision to close its brick-and-mortar locations was made so it can focus more on how consumers want to experience the Godiva brand, including through online sales and through its grocery, club and retail partners.
