BEIRUT: The Rashaya Plastic Arts Workshop called Thursday for preserving the country’s architectural heritage as part of a new nationwide campaign. “Our heritage today is being destroyed across the country, whether deliberately or not, and especially our cultural heritage, which includes many homes,” Marwa Alwan said at a news conference at the group’s Beirut office.
The campaign, entitled “Stop Rja3ni” (Stop – Bring me Back) will begin in the qada of Hasbaya, and will be carried out in cooperation with concerned municipalities and the Tourism and Culture ministries.
Alwan, head of the project, said that due to the decline in the number of traditional homes over the last decade, the campaign would focus on photographing traditional architecture across the country and holding exhibitions as well as showing documentaries. Every town will have its own exhibition and residents will be invited so they can learn about the importance of their heritage.
