Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi on Sunday held talks with King Abdullah II of Jordan, wrapping up a three-day visit to the kingdom. After the meeting, al-Rahi said he sensed Abdullah’s keenness on avoiding violence in the region and encouraging dialogue aimed at reaching political settlements.

"I expressed to him our appreciation for his wisdom and vision, and we have seen with our naked eye the prosperity and progress at all levels, including the level of pluralism in Jordan and Christian-Muslim coexistence,” the patriarch added. “There are great ties of friendship between Lebanon and Jordan, and between (the late) King Hussein, may God have mercy on his soul, and the Maronite patriarchate,” al-Rahi added.
