TEHRAN, Sep. 22 (MNA) – Lebanese authorities are reported to have arrested a Takfiri terrorist involved in the bomb attack on the Iranian Embassy in Beirut in 2013.

According to a statement released by Lebanon’s Department of Public Safety on Tuesday, the arrested terrorist with a Syrian citizenship was the head of an armed terrorist group involved in making missiles by using explosives and bombing cars with Lebanese license plates operating in a workshop in the Syrian city of Yabrud.

The statement adds that the Syrian terrorist and his accomplices with the help from another Syrian national transferred to Lebanon a bombed car used in the blast at the site of Iran’s embassy in Beirut and gave financial support to this terrorist attack.

The statement asserts that the Lebanese security forces after interrogating the terrorist have given him over to the judiciary and investigations are underway to locate and arrest other members of this terrorist group.

On November 19, 2013, twin bombings outside the Iranian Embassy in Beirut’s southern neighborhood of Janah left at least 25 people dead, including six Iranian nationals among whom was the Iranian cultural attache, and wounded over 160 others.

According to reports, the first explosion took place when a bomber blew his explosives near the gate of the embassy, and the second blast happened just meters away when a car bomb went off.

On January 1, the Lebanese government confirmed the arrest of Majed al-Majed, the Saudi leader of the al-Qaeda-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades that claimed responsibility for the bombings. The detained Saudi terrorist was pronounced dead in a Lebanese military hospital on January 4 and his body was delivered to Saudi officials.
